Food is in line with other steakhouses in town- Oak, Grill 225, Ruth's Chris. The difference as some other reviewers have stated is its way overpriced for locals. $13 including tax for a crown and coke filled to the top with ice, and thats without the 20% tip. Now thats outrageous. That's just an example. Hall's is a tourist trap, they have little use for the locals other than the bar crowd, and they couldnt care less what we think as they pack the out of towners in. The atmosphere is lousy as the bar crowd downstairs drowns out your conversation in the dining room upstairs on any given night. Go once to say you've eaten there if you wish but smarter to save your money and go somewhere you can actually have an enjoyable evening out at and hear your dinner guests across the table from you. Dont worry the tourists will still be there. With the dining options now available in Charleston, why bother is the question.

Not the greatest place to go if you are into actually listening to music. The highs (treble) bounce all over the cavernous box, and I'm pretty sure the MO is to crank up the volume to an ear splitting level because the monkeys at the bar are yelling drink orders and clanking beer bottles. I've seen artists ask the crowd to quiet down (e.g. JJ Grey, Amos Lee), and it just didn't happen. I also noticed that they haven't come back. The vibe in there is "college party", with the music appreciators crammed in the snake pit in front of the stage.

Overall, the layout isn't conducive to having a place to post up, have space, and enjoy the music...if you creep to the back for space you're forced to observe the party-goers and their noise. Best place in town for actual "dialed in" music levels is the Pour House (except the Music Halls of course, but you're sitting down then)...the PH shows don't start until 11, so you better be a night owl.

The food isn't bad at all, and the prices are in line with what you get but - as many other reviewers have noted - the owners and some of the staff are overfamiliar to the point of creepiness, and it comes across as insincere. Lay off the gladhanding - you're trying way too hard.

All these ridiculously verbose five-star reviews from users with no other reviews - hello, cantw84sumr, Laura M. Dixon, marks0112, maddiecakes? These have all the - uh - hallmarks of being shills for the restaurant.

Too Meat Lovers, take notice. Nice Restaurant, however when you buy there top steak a 32oz porterhouse cooked WARM RARE for $72US you would expect exactly that. Steak that arrived was a mere T-bone not porterhouse and maybe 24oz at best. I know some of you will say that there is shrinkage due to cooking and the weight of the bone, but having had this steak there before, there was a noticeable change in size this time. I feel is you are paying the prices for there steaks at least make it close to the weight advertised. Enjoy at your own risk.

The oysters were very good..... The chicken was greasy and over spiced ... Had a dozen good oysters then the bill came at $70.00... Was still hungry sorry never again

We went on a cold, rainy, weekday evening a couple of weeks ago. Edmund's Oast had only recently opened and it was packed, which we expected. The space was nice and you'd never know it used to be a decorative hardware store. As soon as we walked in I knew it was the wrong place for me, though. I don't own skinny jeans or a plaid shirt with snaps. I don't wear loafers without socks and a sweater around my neck. These trappings, along with a zeal for obscure pale ales, seemed to be key components of the clientele.

We were seated at a communal table and given menus, which we could barely read between the very low light and the poor choice of font. I hadn't heard of any of the beers so I had to ask for something that wasn't hop-driven since I don't like bitter beers. The server recommended two and I chose one at random. It was pretty good but not especially memorable.

We ordered a small charcuterie platter ($12) and roasted Brussels sprouts ($6) to start. For main courses we tried the seared triggerfish ($26) and miso rubbed pork loin ($26). Both the Brussels sprouts and charcuterie were tasty, but both portions were very small. The triggerfish was slightly overcooked and a minuscule portion, but tasty. The miso rubbed pork loin was cooked nicely but also small and almost devoid of flavor. Miso packs a punch but it was completely missing. The dashi had not even a hint of the smoky ham hock flavor that was promised. I love pea pistou but this tasted like a parsley chimichurri instead. In general I felt the food was okay and had potential but was overpriced by about 25%.

I wouldn't mind going back when it warms up, sitting outside at a table and having a beer, then moving on somewhere else for a meal.

The male bartender was awesome and he took over in the case of the negligence and rudeness of the female bartender. The female bartender was just plain nasty. She took an order from a guy standing right next to me when i clearly was before him then when i tried to get her attention she yelled "you have to wait a aminute" and served two more customers before me. I asked for Grenadine which they had in a bottle and she grabs a tray of cherries from the holder and poured the juice right in my drink. The other bartender made me a fresh drink but still :-P Also Karaoke Chris was rude. When It was my turn to sing on the Mic. Im an African american female and there was one african american male in the building and I guess it was Chris friend and said on the mic "hey man I couldn't tell the difference between you two" and started laughing to his underlying racial joke. But with my beautiful self i stole the show and he shut up. But Its a shame that 2014 I had was witness to ignorance of this sort in my own hometown. And I will definitely let the world know!!!!!

After 15 years of eating at Hominy Grill on occasion, I had a craving for shrimp & grits recently and stopped by for lunch all by myself. I was shocked at the disgusting glob of goo that was presented to me...it just LOOKED terrible. Regardless of the appearance, I dived in and, yes, looks weren't deceiving - it was TERRIBLE. After reading year after year about the BEST shrimp & grits in Charleston, I finally tried it & it was awful. The service wasn't much better. What a shame. The two stars are for easy access to parking & the guy bussing tables that finally came over & took this atrocity from my table.

I didn't go there for the beer (so my rating is for the food only)... and had the Pork Schnitzel and Kaesespaetzle twice now. 1st time I was positively surprised by the taste, 2nd time 2 weeks ago not so much - the Schnitzel was not cooked/fairly raw and the batter didn't even stick to the meat; the Kaesespaetzle had more cheese than Spaetzle and was more like a soup. I know how it's done right, I'm a German. At the community tables it's disruptive if someone wants to use their cards...you got to move out of the way and it seems hard to keep the tables bussed..so you kind of put the previous guest's dishes away to the side yourself and hope a waiter/waitress doesn't think it's yours.
The staff is friendly and accomodating; the atmosphere fairly loud inside and it's a loooong wait for a table. I like the interior and the outside. Hopefully this place gets the kinks worked out - has lots of potential to be the IT-spot.

Was really looking forward to this place for so long. I've been for lunch and an early afternoon beer, and it is tolerable then. The lunch food I thought was great and pretty affordable. Service at night, though, is pretty terrible (especially if you're a dude). Good luck getting a drink at the bar...and paying a little too much for it. I would just ignore the beer card thing if its not for you...

The bier card was a golden opportunity to set BSB apart from the pool of comparable establishments. If anything, that should have been focused on for success only. Otherwise when you come down to saying that outside of the bier card, you are just like everywhere else, that really hurts in promoting your brand. If you are just like everywhere else, why don't I just go everywhere else?

I will cut some slack on the servers and their lack of knowledge since that takes time for most new places to overcome. I may try BSB again in a couple of months to see if they have improved. But if they are either no different or if what makes them different is not better, then I don't expect this to be a true and successful biergarten for the many in Charleston who are well-versed in beer.

It's frustrating because if you want to order a beer from the taps throughout the restaurant you have to use a prepaid card which charges you by the oz even if only foam comes out. Also hard to view the selection of taps when the restaurant is busy also feels like you're intruding on other customers dinner if you want to go get a specific beer. Then if you want to order from the bar or waitress you only have 13 beer options total. I see what they were trying to do but didn't quite enjoy the experience.

I enjoyed Bay Street Biergarten's beer selection but have to agree with the others that the prepaid card is a scam. Watch out for the free pour, the get you by charging you for half of a glass of head each time a keg is changed. I paid 60$ for a card and was denied my Bombay Sapphire gin martini at the bar, which is unacceptable. And also, what's the deal with the community tables and the fact that one person has to pick up the whole tab? That's not how a community table operates. I like how the poster 'easydoesit' gives the restaurant 5 stars in order to bash a fellow reviewer. That smells of an inside job. Hilarious! In other news, the beef jerky was great!

Based on all comments, odds are about 50-50 that you will NOT enjoy your meal at Halls Chophouse and pay too much to boot. As to the 3 star rating, it is actually less than that as some negative comments did not post a star at all and were not included in the calculations.

The food is okay but the service is terrible. It's not the least bit Irish, so don't go there expecting it to be an Irish pub. They do half-priced burgers on Tuesdays, which is why we went tonight.

We sat for about 10 minutes with no one approaching us and watched two more groups get seated. A guy approached the group a few tables away, a girl approached the one in the booth directly behind us, and we were ignored. My husband caught the girl as she walked past and told her we were seated first and hadn't been greeted yet. She said she would find out who our server should be. The discussion with the hostess happened within earshot of our table. Apparently the hostess didn't tell anyone whose table it was, so the one serving the people behind us rolled her eyes and ended up being our server.

We waited for about 15 minutes before our order came out on a tray with the food for the people behind, despite our order being entered several minutes before theirs. That explains why my fries were lukewarm. The food was brought by someone other than our server, who tried to escape like she had dropped a bomb. We managed to ask for condiments and silverware, though. We saw our waitress once for the rest of our meal, when she asked how we liked our food and filled my husband's water. Lucky for us the couple behind us accosted the hostess to get their bill, and when the waitress appeared we got ours at the same time.

This the second time we've been for the half-priced burgers, and the second time we've gotten bad service. While the burgers are tasty it doesn't make up for the severe lack of service.

We first went to Home Team right after they opened, which was probably five or six years ago. We weren't impressed and haven't been back since. Friends said the recipes had been tweaked, and after the recent USA Today accolades we decided to give them a second try.

I ordered a half rack of ribs with mac and cheese and butter beans. The first surprise was when I cut into the ribs and discovered they were spare ribs, not back ribs. That was my own mistake for not asking so I sucked it up. The second surprise was when I found the membrane had been left on the back of the ribs. When cooked it turns into a plastic-like sheet that is disgusting to eat and difficult to remove, so most places do it before cooking. I picked off as much as I could.

Once I got past those two issues I was pleased to find the ribs were cooked very well. They had a nice crust on the outside, an obvious smoke ring, and the texture was excellent. They just didn't have any flavor. There was a bare hint of smoke and the crust on the outside had no obvious seasoning. It was tasty in a roasted pork kind of way, but not at all satisfying in an "I want bbq ribs" kind of way. Which is why I was there, so it was really disappointing.

I thought I could salvage it with some sauce. I'm not a fan of the vinegar and chili flake mixture so I skipped that and started with the Red Sauce. It tasted like a vinegar sauce with some ketchup added, but vinegar was the dominant flavor. I switched to the Sweet Red sauce. Basically it was the Red sauce with slightly less vinegar and more sugar. Finally I gave the Mustard Sauce a go. There was a pungent mustard powder flavor and a very strong vinegar component, which was followed by a very sweet honey-like flavor. None of the sauces worked for me, either being overly vinegary or overly sweet.

The macaroni for the mac and cheese was cooked perfectly. It was in a very watery, salty, white sauce that tasted vaguely cheesy. It wasn't bad but it wasn't appealing. The butter beans were also cooked nicely but they were really salty.

Overall everything was cooked well but for me the flavors were way off. All the sauces tasted too strongly of vinegar or were too sweet and the sides were extremely salty. That was how I felt when they first opened, and that's how it still is.

Tried Hom 3 times.
First time was good...Had the Hom Wrecker and fries(not included w/ burgers) and thought it was good, not great, and a bit pricey.

Went back a second time, had the 'Hombre', a chorizo burger, very good & unusual, kinda small, but on par with my first visit.

Third time was a total fiasco....Late afternoon, not busy, Ordered the 'Green Hornet'. It looked like a slider or kid's burger, TINY, on what appeared to be a dinner roll. Meat was mushy and fell apart. The chile slices were cold & flavorless. I could not see the blue cheese pimento or taste it, and the lettuce was wilted. Absolutely horrible.
The server asked "How is everything?...I responded, 'Not so good' and commented on my meal...small, no cheese. Server assured me cheese was there...and burger is a WHOLE 6 oz. Then said 'I'm sorry you're unhappy' and walked off. WOW!!! So much for customer service.
Considering I ordered onion rings which put me about $13 -14 in for a 'snack' and received little consideration...I won't be back, my companion was unhappy as well. Third time out...Not very good & expensive compared to portion size. I can think of 2 or 3 placed that serve a killer burger EVERY time, large(or at least good size) portions for less $$$. You charge $10 clams for a gourmet burger...it better be great.
Sorry HOM unacceptable.
