Re: “Halls Chophouse

My wife and I live in the Charleston area and have eaten at halls numerous times. We love it. The steaks are to die for. We often go on the spur of the moment and eat at the bar. The Halls do sometimes politely ask how you are enjoying your experience, something any good restaurant will do. It is pricey, but it tracks with what other fine steak houses charge for top notch beef. Pay no attention to the low ratings - the people who are posting them are clearly insane.

Re: “Halls Chophouse

Another person (QB) who is either an employee of Halls or shill for the restaurant who signed up for an account today and posted a 5 star review, this is a familiar pattern discussed numerous times on this thread. Come on people... Lol, lol, lol...

Re: “Halls Chophouse

Hall's is top notch across the board; frankly, I think that these reviews shooting the place down are pretty mean-spirited. The Hall family is a class act, and I have very good memories of their kindness to me and my wife and young daughter. Good people bringing top notch food to Charleston.

But hey, haters are gonna hate...

Re: “Halls Chophouse

This is just another expensive version of Aaron's Deli. Tourists are their main clients, and are stuck with mediocre food and a very noisy atmosphere. With all the nice genuine professional restaurants in town, I wonder why they can stay in business.

Re: “Halls Chophouse

Halls is for dumb tourists only. All of the negative comments on this board are true. The food is average, the prices are high and the four owners are a pain in the butt. Please stay away from this horrible place.

Re: “Halls Chophouse

It should be pretty clear to anyone reading this thread of comments and "Linda" and, most likely a few friends she has recruited, are on a personal mission to smear Halls Chophouse and the Halls themselves.

My wife and I have been to Halls 6 or 7 times. We've been to some of the best steak houses in the Country (NYC, Dallas, Atlanta, etc) and Halls is one of the best. The steaks are fantastic, on of the best caesar salads anywhere, and a world class wine list. Perhaps Billy can be friendly to a fault, but you have to appreciate the families commitment to this restaurant and their patrons. They are always there and try to get to know people. The bar downstairs is a lively scene, so its not the most quite restaurant in town. So, if you are looking for a very quite dining experience where you don't see or here from the owners, perhaps you should try another Charleston steakhouse, Penninsula Grill is fabulous.

Read reviews on Open Table and Trip Advisor if you want to see some honest reviews of Halls.

Re: “Halls Chophouse

Food is in line with other steakhouses in town- Oak, Grill 225, Ruth's Chris. The difference as some other reviewers have stated is its way overpriced for locals. $13 including tax for a crown and coke filled to the top with ice, and thats without the 20% tip. Now thats outrageous. That's just an example. Hall's is a tourist trap, they have little use for the locals other than the bar crowd, and they couldnt care less what we think as they pack the out of towners in. The atmosphere is lousy as the bar crowd downstairs drowns out your conversation in the dining room upstairs on any given night. Go once to say you've eaten there if you wish but smarter to save your money and go somewhere you can actually have an enjoyable evening out at and hear your dinner guests across the table from you. Dont worry the tourists will still be there. With the dining options now available in Charleston, why bother is the question.

Re: “Brittlebank Park

Charleston Carifest has improved over the years and although the organizers struggle with sponsorship they do a good job and are happy to share the Caribbean Culture and Heritage celebration with the community. $10.00 is not enough for this event.

Re: “Halls Chophouse

I don't know where the other people on this thread have been eating but I have never had a bad meal, bad service or experience at Hall's. Maybe they aren't used to knowledgeable servers who are attentive without being intrusive (anywhere else mail you a thank you note afterwards?), or owners who greet and try to take care of their guests like it was their home (3 deep at the bar but Billy finds me a barstool). Walked in on a average Sat night & we were seated within 5 mins at the community table. I'm no one special other than I appreciate the best steak Ive ever tasted, fantastic side dishes (lobster mac & the chopped salad!) & the first class service. It gets loud but there's nowhere that doesn't anymore as people seem to have forgotten their inside voices. Yes, it's pricey but we've never left feeling we paid too much for the quality we received. Go to Ruths Chris if you don't like it and free up a table for those who appreciate this gem.

Re: “Halls Chophouse

The tourists flock to this place, while the locals laugh! Forget about the Charleston version of the Adams family that runs the place, the weirdest, most eccentric people you will ever meet, but the drinks are way overpriced, like double other places, and the steaks are mail order Allen Bros. steaks marketed as some amazing cuts of beef. Tourists are so dumb they think the Halls family i.e. Adams family are Charleston natives, little do they know they came here in 2009 after one failed business attempt in the hospitality industry after another in multiple US cities. Sadly, the jokes on us, the people of Charleston.

Re: “Halls Chophouse

12$ liquor drinks you get for $5 dollars everywhere else and average mail order Allen Bros. steaks, yet the tourists flock to this place. All the locals do is laugh. The family has a well deserved reputation as the most freaky, eccentric family in Charleston, which is why the locals stay away.

Re: “Crave Kitchen & Cocktails

My new go-to brunch place in Charleston. Shrimp with grits and chorizo sausage is great. The bacon Bloody Mary will not disappoint. Great casual outdoor seating.

Re: “Halls Chophouse

Some people, especially Charleston locals, do not care to be constantly bothered by self-promoting, in-your-face boors when trying to enjoy a quiet dinner of only-average steak.

If you cant get a table, eat at the bar. The bartenders are amazing and will keep you entertained and they'll offer amazing insight on the menu. Food is amazing! Family style apps are fantastic! A+

Best bar in town! Also, an award winning, incredible restaurant downstairs! Great service, great active owner, great staff & management, and an extremely talented Chef who pours his heart into his food! If you haven't been, I suggest you go! Now! :)

Management has it together. Greats you at the door, checks on you, listens. Really a great experience here. I was so surprised to see the level of attention the management and servers have here. Food was very good and good prices. Highly recommend.
