Re: “Lana

I had heard mixed reviews in about Lana in the past, but was impressed by both the food and service I received last night. The food is solid, unpretentious fare... you won't find amazing presentations or over the top ingredients, but my gnocchi and my girlfriend's risotto were both delicious and a great value considering the overall quality and ample volume of food included... An 'appetizer' portion of mussels (in a basic but delicious white wine sauce) could easily exceed entree portions at similar restaurants. Our server was friendly and prompt but not intrusive.

Overall, this isn't the sort of place you go to to be amazed or to impress, but it's a great spot for a filling, casual evening of great food...

Re: “Sermet's Downtown

Boring food. I ordered the roasted tomato soup, which had a decent flavor but was a bit one-note: creamy. I also ordered the grilled salmon salad; the "poached pears" were just pears out of can.

Re: “Ali Baba Mediterranean Deli & Catering

Just had lunch today. Recommended it to some friends and decided to join. Looks like I won them over. A little chilly in the dining area though. Food warm.

Re: “Ali Baba Mediterranean Deli & Catering

I eat here multiple times a week, sometimes twice in a day. The Falafel and hummos is delicious as well as their many assortments of salads. Heart of palm, tabouleh and fatoosh are my favorites. Give them a shot, the owner Samir is very friendly and always has a smile on his face. *** Vegetarian Friendly ***

Re: “Lana

I recently relocated to the Charleston area and have been dying to try out as many restaurants as possible. LANA has been the absolute best of all. The atmosphere is wonderful, intimate, low key. The food was fabulous, nice take on mediterranean. Can't wait to go back!

Re: “Lana

Don't know what planet everyone came from that posted reviews but Lana serves consistently great food! It doesn't break the bank like alot of Charleston restaurants do and this place is one of my top 3 favorite restaurants! Highly recommended! BTW as far as Daniel Island goes there not a decent place to eat there since chef Vendrinski left except for Laura Alberts.

Re: “Sermet's Downtown

Very nice late night dinner here Saturday. Great waiter very friendly that looks like VIN DIESEL. The dinning room reminds me of a Greenwich Village style no attitude home town eatery. The dinner was really very good for the both of us. Will be back for sure.

Re: “Muse

Wash of the everyday with a vacation at Muse. The wine bar is the perfect petit spot to avoid the high heels & cologne of other obvious night spots. Muse quietly oozes conversation, charm mixed with Matts magic tricks & killer drinks not to be outdone by cuisine that reminds you its heavenly to nibble & not merely eat food.

Re: “Ali Baba Mediterranean Food

Excellent, and I disagree with the previous comment on the ambience. We got excellent, friendly service, enjoying a fantastic pilsner from Lebanon, followed by a wonderful red wine from the Bekaa Valley and lamb shank on a bed of curried rice and spinach. I heartily recommend it!

Re: “Muse

This is the best place I've found in years in Charleston! Fun, friendly and really outstanding food. Indoors, outdoors or at the bar. I can't wait to come back!!!!!

Re: “Ali Baba Mediterranean Deli & Catering

My husband and I stumbled upon the place by accident but was very glad we did. We had the special gyro of the day, with this amazing feta sauce/spread and lots of meat. Absolutely delicious! We also tried a small treat (cant' remember the name, but had pistachios in it), that I have to say was little overpriced. Other than that, it was great and we'll definitely be going back!

Re: “Ali Baba Mediterranean Deli & Catering

Let me begin by saying that my wife and I lived in the Middle East for two years. While living in Jerusalem, many locals invited us into their homes for wonderful Middle Eastern/Mediterranean cuisine. Not only did they share meals with us, they taught my wife how to prepare the local food. Over those two years we learned that Middle Eastern food is extremely tasty and very healthy as well.

In the 20+ years since living in the Middle East, whenever traveling, we always look for Middle Eastern/Mediterranean restaurants. We’ve found some pretty good ones in large cities like Atlanta, Metro DC. Now we have no need to look any further. Welcome to Ali Baba Mediterranean Deli & Catering on Daniel Island. For my family it is a dream come true to have the real thing in town. The prices are right, the atmosphere, friendliness and hospitality remind us so much of what we experienced during our time in Jerusalem.

I really hate to limit my recommendations because everything is absolutely delicious. But be sure not to miss the some of the best kibbi I’ve ever had along with an absolutely wonderful heart of palm salad. The grape leaves are outstanding and the chicken kebob melts in your mouth. This food is freshly prepared and Ali Baba’s has quite a variety. The vegetarian has many choices and for those who don’t feel adventurous there’s even a half pound burger on the menu. We’ve eaten in at Ali Baba or picked up there countless times and I still don’t think we’ve gotten to try everything on the menu. If you want authentic Middle Eastern/Mediterranean cuisine, you simply can’t go wrong with Ali Baba on Daniel Island! It’s a 5 star all the way!

Re: “Papa Zuzu's

If it is the same as Downtown they are AWESOME !
The biggest & meatiest Gyro's I ever had & I travel ALOT.
Every visit to Charleston would include a stop there and boy was I upset on my last visit when I saw it was a different name/owner and not even a 1/10 as good as PAPA ZUZU's... I am estactic to find where ya'll are & will be visiting ya'll during the Food Festival next month :)

Re: “Muse

I went to Muse about 2 weeks ago with a party of 4.
I though the restaurant had a great feel to it. It is inside an older Charleston style home. We sat upstairs.
They have a huge wine list We ordered the cheese plate as an appetizer. Everyone was pleased with it. It had some local honey on the side, and was finished quickly. Meal comes with a bread loaf which was very tasty. I personally had a pasta dish which is not on their online menu ( but it was penne pasta, with a light pesto sauce and steamed clams in shell on the side. It was very tasty. It was a perfect size serving. I believe that everyone else had a ribeye/filet mignon. I sampled my wife's ribeye, and the taste was there, perfect seasoning, and cooked to her perfection. Did not get a chance to try dessert that night. I would recommend giving Muse a try. I don't think it will disappoint you.

Re: “Sermet's Downtown

I went to Sermet's Corner last week for lunch with a coworker. We were promptly attended to by an attractive hostess. I asked for a table in the back so we could watch the chef work. A basket of bread and glasses of water were placed on the table a minute after we were sat. I went for the crab cake burger with the sweet potato fries. The crab cake wasn't very interesting on its own, the remoulade sauce made it better, but not great. The sweet potato fries were a disappointment. They were overcooked, starchy, overly greasy and crunched when you bit into them. The best sweet potato fries I've had are from Sesame Burger and Brew in North Charleston. Sermet's version weren't even close. Service was good with questions being answered clearly. I'll have to try Sermet's again as this may have just been an off day.

Re: “Lana

After reading wonderful reviews of Lana on various sites, my husband and I went there for dinner last night. Although the menu selections were wonderful and inventive, the meal was just "okay"--creative, but not worth the prices. Also, I am not sure if it was an off-night, but the service was very stuffy and unfriendly. I do not mind a reserved, dignified waitstaff, but last night, everyone seemed overly serious, bordering on pretentious. I would like to go back sometime to give it a second chance, but there are so many other Charleston restaurants we would like to try...

Re: “Lana

I usually discuss restaurants with friends, but has to post here because I saw a couple of negative reviews. I have never had anything less than a stellar meal at Lana's. In terms of lovely food, value for money and great service, it is one of my favourite Charleston restaurants. Sometimes it gets a bit loud later in the evening so we usually go with just one other couple. We love it!
