City Hall Loo Opens to the Public on Weekends

Staff Pick

Up until December 2014, if you were walking south of Broad Street on a weekend and found yourself in need of a urination station, your options were A) knock on the front door of a house and pray for Southern hospitality, B) take your chances whizzing through the Battery guardrail into the Ashley River, or C) wander northward until you find an open public restroom. Now, the city of Charleston has offered you one more option: The toilets on the ground floor of City Hall (80 Broad St.) are open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It’s certainly no panacea for the city’s long-documented shortage of public johns, but it’s an elegant part of the solution. Don’t believe us? Stop in and take a look. With their unusual archways and dim lighting, these are some of the most aesthetically interesting crappers in our fair city.
