Library Referendum Passes

Staff Pick

Depending on your point of view, you could argue that the results of last November’s election were either a sign of progress or a sign that things have to get worse before they can get better. But there was at least one result that most of us — 74 percent, to be exact — agreed on: the Charleston County Public Library’s $108 million plan to modernize the entire system. The plan, which calls for the construction or renovation of 19 buildings, plus major technology and infrastructure upgrades, passed by a margin of 3-1. Now, the library and the county just have to come together to agree on a timeline for the work. For the sake of Lowcountry library patrons, let’s hope that in this case, the wheels of government turn a little faster than usual.
