Sometimes, your wanderlust can lead you to new local favorites

Admit it, you're addicted to social media. It's fine — we're right there with ya. And while this summer guide, for the most part, wants you to get off your phone and get outside, we know that sometimes you need a screen-scrolling break. Might we suggest taking a trip on your phone with these locally-based, wanderlust worthy Instagram accounts?

Olivia Rae James

We started following local photographer Olivia Rae (oliviaraejames) before we even moved to Charleston four years ago — her pictures are that dreamy. And they're not just of the city and local movers and shakers; this gal travels a lot, too, and she takes Instagram followers on a journey every time.

Allston McCrady

Local writer Allston McCrady (allstonmccrady) travels a lot for her work — be on the lookout for drool-worthy food shots from around the country (and the world), from Richmond, Va. coffee shops to the great outdoors of Canada. She also has a keen eye for capturing this city's happenings and local interests, from sea turtle releases to dolphins in Shem Creek.

I brake for daffodil farms. (Too early for this region's famous tulips, but this'll do). #roadtrippin #pacificnorthwest

Sarah Adams

Chef Sarah Adams (sarah.p.adams) has an eye for gorgeous looking food — and she can cook it, to boot. Follow her for the recipes she's cooking up and get a sneak peek at some of the trips she takes to gather foodie inspiration, such as her recent trek through Asia.

I will always order the sampler platter...always.

ibu Movement

This far-reaching clothing company (ibumovement) uses global textiles from women artisans — and you can find their brick and mortar right here in Charleston. Clothing, accessories, and jewelry hail from Bangladesh, Madagascar, Mexico, South Africa, and many more locations. Few things are as fun as window-shopping on your phone ... and then doing it in person.

The Southern Gallery

This local contemporary art gallery, The Southern (thesouthern.gallery), has been making waves, providing a space both for edgy art and emerging artists. Follow their 'gram for sneak peeks at current exhibitions and hit the road with gallery owners Erin and Justin Nathanson when they help jury other art shows in hotspots like Miami.

. I got 99 problems. Install day, not one. #💯

Lindsey Shorter

OK, so it's hard not to like every image a local photog captures on Instagram. They're, ya know, good at taking pictures. Lindsey Shorter (lindseyshorter) captures everything from local bands to brands and her use of natural light is awe-mazing.

Too soon to say I am ready for #harriestnye ? #harriestnye15

Cator Sparks

As editor-in-chief of The Manual Guide, a site that "shows men how to live a life that is more engaged," Cator Sparks (catorsparks) lives a pretty freaking fabulous life. He travels a lot, capturing great pics from NYC to London to Italy. But our favorite shots are of his darling dogs, Fergus and Gareth, bopping around Charleston.

Local food porn

Is an Instagram account wanderlust-y if the food hails from afar? We're gonna go ahead and say yes because our mouths are kind of always watering when we peruse the yumminess that is served up on Chez Nous' account (cheznouscharleston), as well as Stella's (stellas), and Xiao Bao (xiaobaobiscuit). So. Good.
