Surf's up

For the third year in a row, the nonprofit Surfers Healing is holding a benefit to raise money for their surf camp for kids with Autism Spectrum Disorder. After Israel and Danielle Paskowitz discovered that their autistic son Isaiah was a lot calmer when he surfed with his dad, they set out to help other children with autism. And anyone who has ever caught ‘the stock’ while paddling out on their long board will understand that calm feeling. But the day won’t just be filled with waves. There will also be local bands playing such as Calhoun’s Calling, Shakin’ Martini’s, Whit’s End, and Nautical Audio. In order to raise money for their surf camp, starting August 20, there will be a silent auction featuring local artists, Jet Ski rides, and a fire pit. Event Coordinator Allison Burbage says, “[hoping for] a day of fun, acceptance and togetherness that will truly make a difference in the life of a child with autism.” Loggerhead’s Beach Grill will be serving drinks from the bar and will provide free lunch from 1-3 p.m.
