13th Annual Pet Helpers Oyster Roast

When: Sat., March 1, 7-11 p.m. 2014
Price: $40/adults at the door, $35/adults in advance, $20/kids at the door, $15/kids in advance
Want to gorge on all-you-can-eat local oysters, chicken bog, and chili while grooving to live music from the Dunder Chiefs and Mozo, all in the name of helping out our four-legged friends? Then head out to the Visitor Bus Center downtown for the 13th annual Pet Helpers Oyster Roast, where organizers encourage you to “shuck your paws off.” Don’t really do that, though. Use gloves and an oyster knife. And your opposable thumbs. That’s what makes you better than the beasts. Shelter Kitchen + Bar will provide the chow, and proceeds will go to the nonprofit Pet Helpers no-kill adoption and spay-and-neuter center on Folly Road, the only one of its kind in the Lowcountry. This year’s event features a silent auction and a smooch-a-pooch booth. Pucker up. The all-day event starts with a 1 p.m. brunch at the Shelter, followed by a 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. “yappy hour,” and the oyster roast at after that. Dogs, of course, are welcome.
