This Friday, Redux Contemporary Art Center opens 1x1, a College of Charleston art exhibit featuring all nine tenured faculty members from the studio art department. Each will be paired up with a student he or she has chosen to share the spotlight. This is the first time that all nine of CofC’s tenured studio art faculty members have ever come together to create one large exhibition. “They have a really amazing studio art department,” says Karen Myers, executive director of Redux. “It’s really like Charleston’s hidden gem.”

Each of the 18 artists will display their unique style in a variety of media including sculpture, print, photography, painting, and even video. Among the artists being displayed are John Hull with Marshall Thomas, Michelle Van Parys with Matthew Bowers, and Jarod Charzewski with Liz Vaughan. There’s no single theme in this exhibition, other than the fact that this gives the art teachers an opportunity to teach their students the ins and outs of exhibiting. 1x1 also marks the 20th anniversary of the College of Charleston’s art department. —Christina Janke
