Lin-Manuel Miranda is obsessed with a Charleston-made hot sauce he got from Stephen Colbert

Twitter’s a weird thing. One minute it’s all talk of Roy Moore on horseback and the next it’s revealing Lin-Manuel Miranda’s favorite Charleston-produced hot sauce.

That’s right, on Tuesday, Miranda, the composer, lyricist, playwright, and actor best known for his Tony Award-winning musical Hamilton, was asked by a fan on Twitter, “What’s your preferred hot sauce?”

Miranda’s answer:
[embed-2] Come to find out, Miranda’s beloved Peach Slow Burn Hot Sauce is from local Jimmy Hagood’s Food for the Southern Soul. The product has been a staple of Colbert’s gift bags, both at the The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and Colbert Report for years through a partnership with the Charleston Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, but this is the first time Hagood has had a celebrity comment on the sauce.

“It’s my birthday today and it’s the first time I’ve ever been blown up on Twitter,” says Hagood of the tweet that reached Miranda’s 2 million followers.

As if that weren’t enough of a birthday gift, the Broadway star did him one better. Shortly after his first comment, Miranda tweeted a photo of his bottle with the caption, “This is the brand and I AM RUNNING OUT.”

Thankfully, Hagood has him covered.

“We just got a pallet of it in, so it’s all very serendipitous,” says Hagood. “Merry Christmas, huh?”
