Uncork, a downtown self-pour wine bar, is changing gears a bit as they come up on their one year anniversary this June.
The King Street spot is revamping their menu and welcoming a new chef, Natasha Cline, who will also serve as the general manager. Cline is responsible for many of the updates, including expanding the food menu to include more than charcuterie — think small plates and ‘grammable desserts from Saveurs Du Monde.
Cline has worked in the Charleston restaurant industry for years, serving as the general manager at Five Loaves Cafe before joining Uncork. Cline draws her passion and style of cooking from her European upbringing and family memories around the dining room table.
When she was brought on to manage the wine bar, Cline says she began asking herself, “When your belly is full, your glass is empty, and your smile is big, what else could you need?”
New small plates include: black capelin Icelandic caviar, Bohemian pate with seasonal embellishments, Leyla hummus with local pita, melted brie and cloudberry toast, smoked onion melt, meatballs, and a hot panini.
Sweet treats include macarons; the ‘Royal,’ an almond wafer crisp with dark chocolate mousse and chocolate ganache; the Opera, an almond sponge cake with coffee buttercream, espresso, and dark chocolate mousse; and Raspberry Dome, a gluten free sponge cake with raspberry jam glaze.
Uncork owner Ken Schneider says he wants the establishment to “feel more like a cozy gathering space than a bar. We want guests to comfortably linger with friends and enjoy our warmth and hospitality — but with an added extravagance.”
Uncork is open Wed.-Fri. starting at 5 p.m. and Sat. and Sun. starting at 1 p.m. Guests can enjoy live music every Fri. from 7 to 10 p.m. and happy hour every Wed.-Fri. from 5 to 7 p.m. with 15 percent off all pours.
Cork’s high-tech Enomatic system allows customers to choose from 40 different wines from across the globe; choose your (tipsy) adventure with one ounce, three ounce, or six ounce pour options. Not into vino? Uncork has craft cocktails ranging from a take on an old fashioned to a King Street spritz.
