On Fri. Feb. 27 at 8 p.m.The Halsey Institue of Contemporary Art and the Center for the Documentary at the College of Charleston will present the film documentary Full Battle Rattle: Inside/Out: Photographs by Christopher Sims and Stacy Pearsall on the last day of a current photography exhibition.
Full Battle Rattle takes place in California’s Mojave Desert where the U.S. Army spent $1 billion to simulate 13 Iraqi villages. Medina Wasl, one of the villages, is filled with soldiers and role-playing Arabic speaking Iraqi-Americans. This mock village allows soldiers to engage in insurgencies and understand what it would be like to live and fight during the Iraq War.
Full Battle Rattle has been shown at film festivals across the country and has been praised by the New York Times, Times of London, and the Wall Street Journal. This showing is free and open to the public. The Halsey Institute is located in the Simons Center for the Arts in room 309. —Emma Hart
