Your Daily Vid: Gustavo Dudamel

Posted by John Stoehr on Tue, Jan 8, 2008 at 12:59 PM

He's 26 years old and he's the next music director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Here, he talks about his experience in Venezuela's El Sistema, the hugely successful government-sponsored program that serves some 250,000 schoolchildren in that country.

This talk occurred before a concert at the BBC Proms broadcast last year by the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra, which Dudamel conducts.

The classical world is going ga-ga for this guy, his abundant gifts, his candor, and his enthusiasm for the tradition. You can see why.
