Charleston County election officials want a 50 percent pay increase – to just $9,000 a year. Charleston County’s election board is paid twice as much as officials in Berkeley County. Some County Council members argued that the pay increase should go to the poll workers because of the issues that arise when there aren’t enough poll workers. During the election in 2018, some polling places saw long lines because a reported 200 expected poll workers didn’t show up. Source: P&C
