Elizabeth Warren will host a panel with local activists about issues affecting the Lowcountry in a "coastal community forum" in West Ashley on Mon. April 15.

The event is open to the public and will take place at The Schoolhouse at 720 Magnolia Road. It starts at 3 p.m., with doors opening at 2:30 p.m.

According to her press office, the afternoon will focus on environmental justice, offshore drilling, and other issues that directly affect the Lowcountry.

Warren, a senator from Massachusetts who announced her bid for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination in February, is a stalwart of the Democratic Party's progressive wing.

She rose to prominence after calling for stronger banking regulations following the 2008 financial crisis during her time as a law professor at Harvard University. She served as the first director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau upon its creation in 2010.

Warren came in at number seven in a list of Democratic candidates that South Carolina voters are most excited about, according to a poll by Change Research released this month. Former Vice President Joe Biden (who has not announced if he's running), Sen. Kamala Harris of California, and Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont made up the top three.
