Firas Nasr, founder of WERK for Peace and host of Dance Party Protests — perhaps, most notably, of the dance party protest that took place outside of Mike Pence's house after the 2017 inauguration — heads to Charleston today, Thurs. Oct. 18 for a dance workshop at CofC.

Spirit Day: ResistDance Werkshop with Firas Nasr will be held at the Stern Student Center Ballroom (71 George St.) from 6-8 p.m. An after party takes place at Dudley's (42 Ann St.) from 8 p.m.-2 a.m. Both events are open to the public, see flyer below for more details.

Nasr joins CATS (Charleston Area Transgender Support) to celebrate Spirit Day, a means of speaking out against LGBTQ bullying and standing with LGBTQ youth. In a press release, CATS says:
"Given the hostile and increasingly anti-LGBTQ climate in the city of Charleston, this year's spirit day event hosted by Charleston Area Transgender Support will teach us how to use our bodies to reclaim public space and take collective action against the white supremacy and queer and transphobia that is ever present in our city. We are also calling for the passage of hate crimes legislation in our state."
WERK for Peace was founded in response to the Pulse nightclub shooting, and is a queer and trans grassroots movement that uses all forms of dance to promote peace.
