If you are the proud captain of a powerboat or sailboat, now is your time to shine — literally — as a participant in the 36th annual Holiday Parade of Boats.

According to production manager and Holiday Parade of Boats coordinator Ray Swagerty, the parade includes two categories: power and sail. Swagerty says that while sailboats typically still use power, they judge them differently because a powerboat can only decorate with lights horizontally, while a sail boat can boast twinklers all the way up the mast. There is no category for the humble kayak, but Swagerty says they have hosted kayakers — equipped with good cheer and kazoos — in the past.

To participate, applicants must fill out this form by Wed. Dec. 6 and must be able to attend the Dec. 6 Captain's Meeting from 6 to 7 p.m. at the City Gallery. Boats will be assigned numbers, which will be attached to 3'x3' canvases on the starboard side of the vessel, to make for easy judging. Prizes will be awarded to first, second, and third place in both categories, with best-in-show going to the highest scoring boat overall.
