Charleston County Parks officials are worried that the Folly pier can't handle the intense dance moves that Folly faithful demonstrate on the elevated wooden structure, so for now, there's no more line dancing on the pier. Source: P&C

The Charleston Area Justice Ministry is pushing for the city of Charleston to choose a different consulting group to handle an upcoming independent investigation of the local police department in an effort to root out racial bias. Source: P&C

As Dustin reported yesterday, state Corrections director Bryan Stirling is asking U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions for help fighting contraband mobile phones inside state prisons, which are used by inmates to coordinate ongoing criminal activity in and outside of prisons. Source: AP, CP

Special elections today in South Carolina's 5th District and Georgia's 6th have the national media focused on the southern districts. SC-5 is a strong Republican area, while the Georgia 6th voted for Clinton in 2016. Source: AP, NYT, WSJ

The state announced yesterday that it will take over control of the poor, rural Allendale County school district, where 91 percent of its 1,236 students live in poverty. State takeover is a last resort for improving schools in the area after working with local leaders. Source: P&C, The State
