With federal prosecutors objecting to defense attorneys' requests for a bench trial for Dylann Roof, federal Judge Richard Gergel ruled yesterday that Roof must have his fate decided by a jury of his peers. Source: The State

After a moment of silence for the victims of the Orlando shooting yesterday, Democrats in the U.S. House began calling for Speaker Paul Ryan to allow consideration of gun reform by the Congress. Ryan declined to hear a parliamentary inquiry raised by U.S. Rep. Jim Clyburn asking about three particular pieces of legislation. Source: P&C, YouTube

Another day, another rate-hike: SCE&G is asking the state to approve a $852 million increase in the projected cost of two nuclear reactors being built by SCE&G and the state utility Santee Cooper. The project is one of the only active nuclear construction projects in the nation and with the hike, would cost $14 billion. Source: The State
