Charleston County parking garages are free Monday night as rains continue

Rising tide lifts cars too

Charleston County says it will open its downtown parking garages on Monday night to those who need to move their vehicles to higher ground as severe weather approaches.

Tropical Storm Colin is bearing down on the Gulf coast this evening and due to roll over the Carolina coast Tuesday morning, bringing heavy rains to an already-soaked Charleston peninsula. Residents who wish to park their cars in a county garage are advised to take a ticket when they enter and tell the clerk they were there because of flooding when they exit. The county asks cars to be moved by noon Tuesday to avoid parking fees. Note: Many downtown garages are run by the city, so be sure to check the list of Charleston County parking garages.

The latest National Weather Service predictions place the storm past the Carolinas and heading back out to sea by tomorrow afternoon.
