Jalopnik's Doug DeMuro came to Charleston and drove a weird six-wheeled ex-fire engine Land Rover

"The coolest vehicle that I've ever seen."

Jalopnik's wandering car critic Doug DeMuro recently stopped in Charleston to do some writing, but wound up tooling around downtown in an underpowered, British fire engine with bad brakes.

You might know Doug DeMuro as the guy who tried to sell his yellow Hummer at CarMax, suckers dealers into selling him accident-prone British cars with crazy warranties, and gripes about his daily driver Ferrari. So when he stopped at a Charleston Cars & Coffee meetup last month, DeMuro felt right at home when he happened on a North Charleston importer's six-wheeled British emergency vehicle that started life as a Land Rover Defender.

In a video posted today, DeMuro took the weird 6x6 on a test drive downtown to show off his adopted wheels (all of them) to the tourists at the Battery. The rig was brought to the U.S. by the owner of North Charleston's Relic Imports who says he hopes to convert it into a makeshift race-support vehicle.
