South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham announced Monday morning that he is suspending his 2016 bid for the White House.
In a video message, Graham thanked those who supporting his run for president, saying, “I believe we’ve run a campaign you can be proud of. We put forth bold and practical solutions to big problems, like retiring our debt and fixing a broken immigration system. This has been a problem-solver’s campaign.”
Upon ending his run, Graham said the fellow presidential hopefuls in his party have come to recognize the need for more American troops on the ground in Iraq and Syria, a message that has been the centerpiece of his campaign.
“I am far more confident today that our party will reject the Obama doctrine of leading from behind and will provide the strong leadership America needs to restore our military, take the fight to our enemies, and do what it takes to make our country safe and preserve our way of life.”
Graham has suffered from low polling numbers throughout his campaign and his withdrawal from the race comes on the deadline for candidates to remove their names from the South Carolina primary ballot. Graham has not yet endorsed any of the other candidates.
