Lawmakers return to the Statehouse this week to take up proposals to remove the Confederate flag from the capitol grounds, a move that could prompt the NAACP to end its 15-year South Carolina boycott. But first, the House will take care of any veto overrides from Gov. Nikki Haley's slate of 87 vetoes that account for some $30 million of the state's $7 billion budget. Source: AP, The State, P&C

In an interview with the Post and Courier, Gov. Clementa Pinckney's murder at Mother Emanuel will be held on September 1 and the special election on October 20. Some candidates have begun declaring their intentions to enter the race. Charleston attorney Andrew Savage, who is representing Michael Slager, the former North Charleston cop accused of the murder of Walter Scott, says that he's asking state investigators why initial scans of the crime scene the day of the shooting were deleted and had to be redone. Private investigators working for Slager's case also said they found bullets missed by SLED agents at the scene, one of which was matched to Slager's pistol. Source: P&C
