National surrogates join candidates for governor in final week of campaign

A recording of U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham speaking at the Hibernian Society earlier this month was leaked to CNN yesterday. In the recording, you can hear several gags characteristic of Hibernian guest speeches, including the choice line, "white men who are in male-only clubs are going to do great in my presidency." South Carolina's infant mortality rate is at its lowest point in decades, says DHEC. [AP]

The State Election Commission is holding a meeting this morning to consider whether what will change after former Speaker Bobby Harrell, who resigned last week, submitted an affidavit earlier this week contending that he withdrew from Tuesday's election for nonpolitical reasons. Whether those reasons were nonpolitical could determine if a special election is called in the race to fill the District 114 seat. Democratic candidate Mary Tinkler has retained former Reagan-appointed federal judge Billy Wilkins to represent her. [P&C]

A 2013 drunk-driving charge against state Rep. Ted Vick has been dropped because the cop who arrested him in a Statehouse parking garage never read him his Miranda rights as required by law. [The State]

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie will join Gov. Nikki Haley on the campaign trail today, a day after he told an activist critical of his handling of Hurricane Sandy in 2012 to 'sit down and shut up.' Former Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal will also join them. [AP, ABC News]
