Take a free ride on CARTA this Friday

McDonald’s sponsoring a full day of free transportation

Have you ever wanted to try out public transportation in Charleston, but never had the exact change or the motivation to do it? On Fri. Feb. 28, you'll have the chance to take as many free CARTA rides as you want.

"All passengers will have access to unlimited rides on all CARTA routes for the entire day," a press release about the event states.

Free Ride Friday will be sponsored by McDonald's, which also advertises heavily on the sides of CARTA buses. The Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority serves West Ashley, North Charleston, Mt. Pleasant, and Summerville. If you need help planning your route, visit

By the way: The DASH Trolley, a downtown bus route to historic and tourist sites, is free every day of the year. So is the NASH, a loop route in North Charleston between the airport, the Tanger Outlets, and Coliseum area.
