Police arrested a 14-year-old boy this afternoon for bringing a BB pistol to school.

According to a news release from the Charleston Police Department, the boy had the BB gun with him at Charleston Development Academy, a public charter school at 233 Line St. near the Citadel’s Johnson Hagood Memorial Stadium. Another student noticed that the boy had the gun and notified a school official, and the school official called police.

The boy is charged with unlawful carry of a weapon on school property. Police took him into custody at about 3:15 p.m., and he is being held in the Juvenile Detention Center.
