The cosmic-themed Cedar Lake bash at the new Citadel stadium press box was a perfect way to unwind and socialize after another week of Spoleto events. The star-studded event, complete with both starry light shows and the cast of the ballet, was a celebration of the contemporary dance that has been stirring interest in Spoleto crowds. Attendees were abuzz about the modern and extremely artistic ballet, with many giving enthusiastic reviews. Debbie Marlowe and Peggie Powell of Charleston raved about the performance while enjoying a nice after-show cocktail. “Fabulous” was the adjective of choice for the two friends, who couldn’t pin point one part of the experience that was stand-out, but rather were enthralled with the ballet in its entirety. Marlowe, owner of the Wine Shop, also shared her excitement about participation in an upcoming Piccolo Spoleto event. The wine aficionado will be providing the selections for Amori Vini (For the Love of Wine) at the College of Charleston Addlestone Library Rotunda Wednesday, June 3 at 8 p.m. Marlowe said ticket holders will be seated for wine tastings before each of three extreme movements by Edward Hart.

A dancer of a different form provided entertainment for guests, from inside a man-sized bubble (conjuring images of Bubble Boy? You’re right on track). The intriguing outfits donned by the staff and unusual entertainment complimented the modern and adventurous spirit of the Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet itself. For patrons such as Carlos Lopez of Atlanta, this innovative spirit of Spoleto is its main draw.
“That is one thing about Spoleto,” Lopez said. “It dares to do things, you know you are going to find something provocative.” See more pics here.
