Tomorrow morning’s tribute to Spoleto Founder Gian Carlo Menotti goes down at the Sottile Theatre at 11am sharp, and admission (it’s free) to a Spoleto event doesn’t come any cheaper.

The program will include music from Menotti’s most notable works, including Magda’s aria from his Pulitzer Prize-winning opera The Consul, performed by soprano Karen Huffstodt, who’s singing the role of Begbick in Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny, and the Sebastian Suite. Also featured will be the famous Adagio for Strings by Menotti friend Samuel Barber, with the Spoleto Festival Orchestra performing under music director Emmanuel Villaume. Mayor Riley and Spoleto choral director Joseph Flummerfelt will make a few remarks, but it’ll be worth it to hear the music. Free and Spoleto don’t show up in the same sentence very often, so you’re advised to be there.
