The Nikki FITS: Folks says Haley camp sought his advice

The Nikki FITS is the (make-believe) name for the coolest political garage punk band ever. For our complete coverage of the gubernatorial campaign scandal, click here.

Will Folks has told The Post and Courier that the Nikki Haley campaign asked him how the gubernatorial candidate should handle the looming admission that Folks and Haley had an "inappropriate physical relationship."

Folks told the paper that he'd been in contact with the campaign for two weeks prior to his confession Monday morning of the alleged affair.

"My advice was that she and her husband sit down on a sofa together and talk about it the way (President) Clinton did," Folks said in an interview with The Post and Courier Tuesday.

Instead, Haley has categorically denied the affair, saying Monday that she has been 100 percent faithful to her husband.

In a post on his own site, Folks claims the Haley campaign had an internal debate over how to handle the news.

“I’ve fought this at every turn,” Haley campaign manager Tim Pearson texted us last night. “Including all day today (Monday).”

Pearson added that the attack against our founding editor was “not what I want(ed).”

Folks appears ready with some evidence to back up his claims, but says other information is still being collected.

Haley is scheduled to appear this evening in Florence and is supposed to be in Charleston on Friday before spending the Memorial Day weekend in Myrtle Beach, according to her website.
