Get A Bike License Or Lose Your Bike

Posted by Greg Hambrick on Wed, Feb 11, 2009 at 5:01 PM

The City of Charleston is stopping bikers who do not have a bicycle license visibly displayed, an obvious attempt to address the area's long struggle with bike thefts

In our weekly dig through police reports, we found two instances where officers stopped bikers because they didn't see a license. In one case, the stop led to an arrest for stolen goods. In the other, a well-known homeless man (at least around these parts) lost the bike he was riding when he couldn't prove ownership.

The license is $1 with a receipt and $5 without a receipt. It's worth it.
