Clyburn: Michelle Obama is No Attack Dog

Posted by Greg Hambrick on Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 11:11 AM

I think Michelle Obama did exactly what she was sent in to do. She humanized herself and her husband in a very gal-next-door kind of way. Her stories were those you could relate to, particularly the drive home in the car — priceless. While some were looking for blood last night, I think you could have easily looked at the list of speakers and known better. House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn sure did.

“The fact of the matter is, you don’t expect for a future, potential first lady to get into that kind of a discussion. If she had gotten into that kind of a discussion, I would see people right now wanting to know who are we going to be electing to run the country, Barack Obama, or his wife?...I think that’s very, very unfair, and that’s the kind of stuff that causes us problems, for you to expect the spouse to draw those kinds of distinctions.”
