Study: Local Starbucks Line Longer Than Unemployment Line

Charleston ranked No. 6 in job growth among markets reviewed in a Colliers Keenan report based on Bureau of Labor Statistics statistics. Colliers Keenan is a commercial real estate firm with offices in Charleston, as well as Greenville (No. 3) and Columbia (No. 9). No offices in the crapper (No. 2).*

While job growth in the United States dipped from 1 percent six months ago to 0.4 percent year-over-year growth for the year ending February 2008, Charleston ranked sixth in the nation for job growth, posting a growth rate of 2.1 percent as of the end of February.

"With job growth continuing in our three major markets, South Carolina seems to be somewhat sheltered from the effects of the national economy," says Ryan Hyler, director of research and marketing of Colliers Keenan.

*JK: Houston was No. 2.
