Tuesday's Primary Wrap: Two for McCain, Romney

Posted by Greg Hambrick on Tue, Jan 8, 2008 at 2:42 PM

• McCain campaign launches truth squad in South Carolina. The collection of four high-profile supporters (including House Speaker Bobby Harrell and Attorney General Henry McMaster) will be hitting the airwaves to defend McCain from the negative attacks that are sure to follow a victory in New Hampshire.

• Yeah, cause that's the problem — people don't see enough of those damn Romney signs.

• McCain gives a sneak peak at his strategy in South Carolina.

In South Carolina, where Republicans vote Jan. 19, McCain said the theme would likely shift to national security matters.

“There’s going to be a lot more concern there about veterans, about the war, about the National Guard,” McCain predicted, noting the state’s high number of retired and active-duty personnel.

• We'll post some thoughts later on the New Hampshire results.

• Upcoming stops:

It's McCain's day Wednesday, with an evening rally at The Citadel. The event starts at 6 p.m. at Mark Clark Hall.

Obama will be in Thursday for a rally at The Cistern at the College of Charleston (gates open at 11, ticket info here).

Meet and greets in Mt. Pleasant and Summerville with McCain on Friday.
