Law and Order Publicity Shots Go Unsigned

Posted by Greg Hambrick on Tue, Nov 13, 2007 at 2:36 PM

We posted this morning on Fred Thompson's planned visit to The Citadel today. The New York Times reporter Mike Santora, wanted to make sure his editors knew he was there and didn't phone it in like we did (more than an hour before the event).

Speaking for more than a half-hour, Mr. Thompson mentioned the word Iraq four times and once mistakenly substituted the word Iran for Iraq when talking about the need to spend more on defense.

When he was done, he did not linger to shake hands much less take questions.

His speech here today, which he read from a teleprompter, touched on a number of familiar themes for Republican candidates.

All kind-nudging aside, the observations Santora makes are valid because of their stark difference from the other GOP candidates. John McCain, for example, likes shaking hands so much he almost has to be pushed out of a room by handlers.
