It’s a decidedly right-wing edition (with one little note on Hillary).

• In the latest news on the sanctity of marriage. Conservatives have argued that gay people aren’t banned from marriage because they can marry any person of the opposite sex they want to. Lance Bass, the former pop singer who came out of the closet last year says that he married a girlfriend for a few hours in Las Vegas seven or eight years ago in an attempt to get free drinks. Yeah, because that’s better than two men who love each other.

• In other conservative ridiculousness, a third GOP legislator (married, with kids and a conservative voting record on gay rights) has been caught soliciting sex from a man. At some point we’re going to get numb to these stories. Until then …

(Police) say that on October 26, Curtis, dressed in women’s lingerie, is alleged to have approached a young man in the “Hollywood Erotic Boutique.”

• “Snowflakes” from Donald Rumsfeld to staff showed his vision for the the Department of Offense … er, Defense.

The meeting also led Rumsfeld to write that he needed a team to help him “go out and push people back, rather than simply defending” Iraq policy and strategy. “I am always on the defense. They say I do it well, but you can’t win on the defense,” he wrote. “We can’t just keep taking hits.”

• Condolezza is getting bad marks from State Department staff upset that they could be mandated to work in the U.S. embassy in Iraq.

Service in Iraq is “a potential death sentence,” said one man who identified himself as a 46-year Foreign Service veteran. “Any other embassy in the world would be closed by now,” he said to sustained applause.

And these are folks who know what the hell’s going on.

• Who is holding up the release of those Clinton White House records? President Bush, of course (sort of).

Because of cumbersome declassification procedures introduced by President Bush, there are now huge delays in processing Freedom of Information requests at all presidential libraries, including the Clinton and Bush I libraries. But the Clintons are themselves taking advantage of a clause in a November 2001 Bush presidential order that permits former presidents to take all the time they need to review FOIA requests.
