Internet Abuse: Obama Wiki Whoops, Seattle Porn Pickle

Posted by Greg Hambrick on Mon, Aug 20, 2007 at 4:16 PM

If you're scouring the Internet for porn at work, you're better off trying it at the Obama campaign headquarters than at a Seattle newspaper.

Two stories caught my eye today on internet abuse. First, Seattle's Stranger got a tip from a Seattle Times staffer ousted for surfing porn at work.

My boss, Jeff, told me that he thought it was a ridiculously applied policy as well and that he had seen people all the way up into management, who had been there for years get walked out.

While the Times was able to track down their culprit, Obama's camp is still trying to find the person who's messing with Iowa's history.

The tracker shows that someone using an Obama for America computer in May visited the Iowa page on Wikipedia in May, and changed its date of statehood from 1846 to 1848. That would mean Wisconsin, not Iowa, was the 29th state to join the Union. The error has since been corrected.

An Obama aide said they were looking into it, but pointed out that hundreds of staffers and volunteers had access to campaign computers.
