Charleston is well-known as a tourist spot, racking up those No. 1 city accolades left and right. But TV personality and traveler extraordinaire, Samantha Brown, wants to make Charleston a little more personal for folks visiting our fair city.

In the second season of her acclaimed PBS show Places to Love, Brown wants to showcase the people and experiences Charleston has to offer — beyond the usual tourist traps. The episode airs on WITV on Fri. April 5 at 7 p.m.

To convey a true sense of what Charleston is all about, Brown focuses on the history and identity of the Holy City, spanning from its Gullah culture to the lasting impact of the slave trade to the things that make people come back time after time.

In the episode, Brown will eat world-class southern barbecue from the first Pitmaster to win a James Beard Award, travel to a local Building Arts school, have a paranormal experience at the Old City Jail, and learn about the rich culture of the Gullah People.

Brown described her top three experiences in Charleston as the hospitable City Market, the informative Bulldog Tours, and the incredibly raw and tragic Old Slave Mart Museum.
