The Park Circle Film Society’s Lowcountry Shorts Fest has already broken records for the number of submissions they’ve received, and the deadline isn’t until Aug. 30.
Founder Nicholai Burton tells us that so far, they’ve received 114 films from 15 countries. “We’ve received entries from all over the U.S., plus Canada, Mexico, Australia, the UK, Ireland, Denmark, Spain, Italy, Germany, France, Israel, Pakistan, China, Greece, Slovenia, Hungary, Malaysia, and Namibia,” he says. Some of those are films that have played at major film festivals like SXSW, the L.A. Shorts Fest,the Tribeca Film Festival, and the Berlin International Film Festival, among others.
Since it began in 2009, the Lowcountry Shorts Fest has expanded from one day to a full weekend of showings at the Terrace Theater. Now, the fest is juried and offers both cash and non-cash prizes. “We’ve started receiving some cool in-kind prizes, like software licenses for Lightworks — the editing suite used to cut Hugo, The King’s Speech, and many other Oscar winners,” Burton says.
The festival runs Sept. 28-29, and tickets are $10 per block for the general public and $7 for Film Society members. A general pass, which will get you in to all four film blocks, is $35.
