Last we spoke to Maria White, excitement was building in lieu of her short film, The Debutante Hunters, making its way to the big screen at Sundance Film Festival. The documentary follows a group of South Carolina’s well-mannered, fashionable Southern belles as they take to the forests to hunt, kill, and feed their families and friends with the byproduct.

Now, with the festival wrapping up last week, the dust has settled, but White’s elation has yet to fade: The Debutante Hunters was awarded with the Audience Award, making the producer-director’s first trip to the prestigious Park City, Utah festival even sweeter.

For the first time in the history of Sundance, Yahoo! partnered up with the festival and chose nine of their 80 short films, streamed them on their website, and allowed users to log on and vote for their favorite of the bunch. When the polls closed and the votes were tallied, it was Debutante Hunters that came out on top. The award not only brought with it proof of a warm reception, but also sent White home with a $5,000 check.
