Friday Flicks: Two very different buddy movies

Which would you pick?

Of the two films receiving wide release this weekend, one is a much-hyped sleek action-comedy written and directed by some of Hollywood's biggest talents. The other option had Anderson Cooper foaming at the mouth for its use of a gay joke in its trailer. But hey, Winona Ryder's in it, so that's kind of cool.

The Green Hornet may have seemed like an odd choice for a Seth Rogen-Evan Goldberg-Michel Gondry vehicle, but I'm really hoping that it works out. The review the City Paper gave it in this week's issue was pretty good, and it seems like the film is going to offer just what we'd expect: snarky humor combined with oddball direction. And probably some Hardee's product placement as well.

And then there's The Dilemma. Oh,The Dilemma. Plenty of people love Vince Vaughn, and Kevin James probably to a lesser extent, but I'm not one of them. I'm pretty bummed this is coming from Ron Howard.

And for something different, the Greater Park Circle Film Society is offering the film Punching the Clown, which won awards at film festivals around the country. The movie follows Henry Phillips, a traveling comedian-musician.
