Getting an early taste of True Grit

The perks of being in the media

True Grit, the newest Coen Brothers' film, doesn't open at the Terrace Theater until Wed. Dec. 22.

But I get to see it tonight. Because I'm totally special. Eat that, suckers.

The film is having a special, invitation-only media screening at the Terrace tonight. (And you read that correctly. It's invite-only and for the media. So please don't show up to the theater saying the City Paper told you you could come, because you will be lying.)

True Grit is based on a novel by Charles Portis, which was first adapted for the screen in 1969, starring John Wayne. The Western follows a 14-year-old girl as she journeys to avenge her father's death. It stars Jeff Bridges and Josh Brolin, who (as we all should know by now) appeared in The Big Lebowski and No Country for Old Men, respectively, Matt Damon, and Hailee Steinfeld as the lead.

The Coen Brothers' last adapted film, No Country for Old Men, won them Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay Oscars. However, True Grit got no Golden Globe nominations, which were announced today. But who really cares about the Golden Globes anyway?

Regardless, I'm looking forward to seeing the flick tonight. Oh, the perks of being in the media.
