Check it: the pride of Charleston, Ranky Tanky, hits the national airwaves tonight at 7 p.m., spreading the gospel of Gullah on NPR's Fresh Air with Terry Gross.

Blending Gullah musical and lyrical traditions with funk, soul, and jazz, Ranky Tanky has lit up international stages galore for the past year, with notable stops at the Lincoln Center in Manhattan, the Edinburgh Jazz Festival in Scotland, and the Czech Republic, where the band got the crowd to sing Gullah.

But this time Ranky Tanky got mic time on NPR's Peabody Award-winning weekday magazine of contemporary arts and issues — with a whopping 4.5 million listeners, i.e. nine million ears. Fresh Air is broadcast across more than 450 National Public Radio stations in the U.S. as well as in Europe via the World Radio Network.

Turn your dials to 89.3 tonight, or click here, at 7 p.m. to hear Ranky Tanky representin'.
