On Thurs. Aug. 24, Monster Music & Movies (946 Orleans Road) will host local punk favorites Drunk Couples as well as South Floridian experimentalists Woolbright.

Hailing from the small town of Davie, Fla. Woolbright has a distinct sound that fuses spacey jazz rock with emo and indie. They released a full length album entitled Busybody Lazybones earlier this month, and their Charleston show will be one of their last tour stops in support of the album.

"Putting out music we are proud of and enjoy playing is the ultimate goal," says John Peloso.

"And music that can bring any amount of joy or positivity in someone's life is a big goal for us as well."

Peloso and drummer Gabe Jean met in high school and the rest of the band, (lead singer/rhythm guitarist Candice Maritato and leader guitarist Josue Vargas) formed through a shared involvement in South Florida's music scene, specifically the bands Basebourne and Lando.

Each member comes from a wide variety of musical backgrounds ranging from jazz to indie to Latin to metal and everything in between. "It's a very broad spectrum but we find a way to meet in the middle," Peloso says.

As for the band's initial formation and discovery of their sound, it was as simple as the four of them just jamming together. When it comes to songwriting, Maritato will bring some ideas she's been working on, and they take it from there.

The combination of Woolbright's sweeping, genre- tangling experimental rock and the upbeat party-ready, "live fast, die young" punk of Drunk Couples is set to make for a fun juxtaposition in sound at their in-store gig this week. and an overarching desire for both the bands and the fans to just have a good time.

When asked about what attendees of a Woolbright show can expect, Peloso says that "if you like Rick and Morty, Lord of the Rings, chilling, laughing, and crying then we're going to have a good time at the gig."
