All day today, Bandcamp will donate 100 percent of its share of proceeds to the Transgender Law Center (TLC), a nonprofit that works relentlessly to change law, policy, and culture for transgender people. The center does policy advocacy and litigation, fights for healthcare for trans veterans, defends incarcerated trans people from prison abuse, supports trans immigrants, and helps trans youth tell their stories and build communities.

The site explains why this issue is important to a platform such as Bandcamp:

"Bandcamp is a platform for artistic expression, and all manner of variance in experience and identity, including gender and sexuality, is welcome here. We support our LGBT+ users and staff, and we stand against any person or group that would see them further marginalized. This includes the current U.S. administration, and its recent capricious declaration that transgender troops will no longer be able to serve in the military. That this announcement was motivated in part to help fund the border wallexposes it as part of the administration’s cynical, discriminatory agenda."

Earlier this year, Bandcamp launched a similar campaign in support of the ACLU as a response to an executive order issued barring immigrants and refugees from seven Middle Eastern Countries from entering America. Due to its incredible success, the music-sharing platform hopes to have an equally positive effect in supporting trans rights.

Music consumers: How to participate? Buy music off Bandcamp today. It's that simple. It can be any album, single, or merch created by anyone anywhere in the world. There are tons of Charleston artists on Bandcamp — some of which are listed here — or you can choose from this list created by Bandcamp of music made by trans and gender-non-conforming artists. Or you can do both by purchasing cosmic Americana music by local transgender songwriter and one of the city's most devoted music scene supporters herself, She Returns From War.

Musicians and labels: If you want to participate as an artist or label by donating part or all of your own share of sales, send some or all of your share of today's sales directly to TLC here and let Bandcamp know your plan in the comments here, so they can share your story.
