Psych-rock band Boogarins hail from Goiânia, Brazil, but guitarist Benke Ferraz says they travel 72, yes precisely 72, percent of the time.

The quartet considers Austin to be their American home away from home, having performed a whopping 30 shows there within the past three years. That’s all thanks to the great time had while in town recording the Boogarins’ last album, the multi-layered, experimental psychedelia collection that is Lá Vem a Morte.

Among those Austin gigs was one five-week residency and multiple in-store sessions at a record shop. But the city stole their hearts for multiple reasons. “It was also the first city where we played in the US, when we arrived for an 11 show schedule for our first SXSW in 2014,” says Ferraz. “We did our first tour ever that day. It was insane and amazing. First time New York Times wrote about us and even the fact we recorded Manual [Manual ou Guia Livre de Dissolução dos Sonhos, 2015] in Spain happened because of a show in Austin. So yeah!”
