Matadero featured by NPR

Upper Deck gets a spotlight, too

While several local acts put their names in the hat for this year’s Tiny Desk Contest from NPR, one Holy City band was recognized by the NPR Music Tiny Desk Contest Blog: Lindsay Holler’s Matadero.

Set in the dimly lit Upper Deck Tavern on King Street, the "Keep Bleeding" video is performed with the band sitting at a table inside the tiny bar filled with friends like Mike Quinn and BACE League of Charleston's McKenzie Eddie and Elliott Smith, who all lend their voices.

NPR Music writer Ben Naddaff-Hafrey said, “In a South Carolina bar, at a back table, Matadero keeps its beat. The rock band maintains an electric tension across all of ‘Keep Bleeding,’ and it releases into a huge chorus where the whole bar sings along.”
