James Taylor and the Lowcountry Voices join for Mother Emanuel tribute in Columbia

Singing the Gospel

Last night in Columbia, legendary singer-songwriter James Taylor paid tribute to the victims of the Mother Emanuel shooting on June 17. Joined on stage at the Colonial Life Arena by Charleston choir the Lowcountry Voices, Sweet Baby James sang "Shed a Little Light," a classic deep cut off his 1991 album, "New Moon Shine."

The message of unity in "Shed a Little Light" is a fitting homage from Taylor, starting off as a solemn hymn, before sliding into a jazzy, celebratory anthem.

That we are bound together
In our desire to see the world become
A place in which our children
Can grow free and strong
We are bound together
By the task that stands before us
And the road that lies ahead
We are bound and we are bound
