Bridge Run rockers join this year's 10K

They'll be no need to carry your iPod with you as you climb the Ravenel Bridge during next month's Cooper River Bridge Run (Sat. April 6). Why? This year's Bridge Run will feature live music every quarter mile, making it the race with the most music per square mile in the country.

The committee received more than 130 band applications and made the painstaking decision based on how the musicians' tunes, tempo, and style correspond with the terrain throughout the race. "We wanted to make sure that as the runners are running, the style of music reflects how the terrain moves," explains Becca Finley, chief creative of the Music Initiative, one the organizations behind the staggered rock show. "For example, on a flat spot, you don't need too much pumping up, so mellow fits nicely, but running uphill needs more motivation with a stronger beat."
