One of the special music events of the 2011 Spoleto Festival USA program is the Del McCoury Band. Singer/guitarist Del McCourey hit the national stage with a move to Nashville in the early 1990s. He and his acoustic band went on to enjoy streak of International Bluegrass Music Association awards and international acclaim.

The veteran bluegrass group recently partnered with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band to release a joint album titled American Legacies, which was released last week. The album was inspired by the success of McCoury’s Preservation, a project made with multiple artists to benefit New Orleans’ Preservation Hall venue and its Music Outreach Program.

American Legacies offers songs that sum up the histories of traditional New Orleans jazz and the “hillbilly jazz” of bluegrass. The Del McCoury Band performs at the at Middleton Place on June 12.
