3fe1/1239393242-john_red___grey.jpg Longtime Carolina singer/guitarist John Brannen — a deeply Southern songwriter with an impressive resume — headlines a special show at the Footlight Players Theatre (20 Queen St.), where he and his band plan to record a new live album/DVD compilation. Presented by Suncoast Promotions, fans can get in on the live recording, as legendary producer David Z (Prince, Gov’t Mule, Buddy Guy, and Leo Kottke) will be at the helm. Brannen’s most recent studio release is the 12-song album Twilight Tattoo (Sly Dog), featuring a duet with Lucinda Williams on “A Cut So Deep.”

Showtime is 7 p.m. Admission is $17 in advance and $22 day-of-show.
